About the Green Leadership Monterey Project

Green Leadership Monterey is a project team comprised of members of the 2008 Leadership Monterey Peninsula (external link) class. Our group is working to develop a green/sustainable resource network for leaders in Monterey County and Central California.

Vision

To create a cadre of leaders who are informed, educated, and ready for action to create a sustainable community.

Mission

The collection and dissemination of information about sustainability to leaders in Monterey County.

Members


Shirley Coly has 20 years of experience in non-profit fundraising and program management. She currently works as a development officer for the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She also serves as president of the Development Executives Network and will assume the presidency of the Walter Colton PTA for the 2008-2009 academic year. Her interest in environmental conservation and sustainability has evolved from her volunteer work with several groups serving the Central Coast.



Ann Flower is a reference and instructional librarian at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. As a political and social activist, she has been interested in sustainable land use, wildlife conservation and organic farming.







Rob Nicely is the president and CEO of Carmel Building & Design Inc. A California native, Rob started in construction at age 13 when he worked with his dad on a geodesic dome project. He continued working construction jobs during the summers while attending UC Davis where he studied Fine Arts. Rob has lived in the Monterey area for 15 years during which time he went from carpenter at Carmel Property Services to owner. Carmel Building and Design focuses on high-end residential projects. With more than one third of its 25 employees green certified, the company strives to be the best resource for sustainable construction practices in the region.





Nancy Scholink currently works as the assistant director of Human Resources at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and has been in the HR field for 15 years. She has a master's degree in Business and has achieved a Senior Professional certification recognized in the field of HR. Nancy's dedication to the community is evident by her commitment on two boards - the Central Coast HR Association (CCHRA) and the Junior League of Monterey County (JLMC). For the past ten years, she has been interested in nature and environmental conservation.



Jodi Stiles currently works as a web systems manager at the Naval Postgraduate School. For the past ten years, she has been designing online systems that support online collaboration and information-sharing - at NPS, at Virginia Tech, and in several private ventures. Jodi has a master's degree in biology with a focus on landscape ecology, forest systems, and invasive species. She has taught biology at the high school and university levels and maintains a strong interest in environmental education and sustainable practice.




Nick Tomb organizes short courses in civil-military relations and post-conflict reconstruction at the Center for Stabilization and Reconstruction Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School. He also teaches American Government at Monterey Peninsula College and serves on the Board of Directors of Global Majority, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion on non-violent conflict resolution.






Amy Treadwell relocated from Sonoma, CA six years ago to attend the Monterey Institute of International Studies earning an Master of Arts in International Environmental Policy Studies. She served as Program Director for the Mandell-Gisnet? Center for Conflict Management at Monterey College of Law from 2006-2008 and currently is planning the launch of a small (green) business. She performs regionally & elsewhere singing Gospel music with the Monterey Peninsula Gospel Community Choir, and Blues music participating in the previous two Monterey Bay Blues Festivals. Amy can often be found on the ocean adventuring & racing her outrigger canoe in Monterey, Santa Cruz & Hawaii. She shares home with Cecil the manx, Reno the tomcat and her life partner, Michael.
