Focus on the Central Coast

California's central coast has all the elements needed for creating sustainability across a broad spectrum. We have agriculture, forestry, marine resources, tourism, educational institutions, industry and manufacturing, as well as ethnic and economic diversity - giving us a unique opportunity to determine how these elements can work together to create a truly sustainable region. The Sustainability Academy's goal is to bring together businesses, organizations, and individuals to create a sustainable community. Challenges unique to the Central Coast include wise water management, creating livable conditions for our essential workforce, and creating opportunities for business growth while protecting our natural environment.

All real change is local. We need to sweep our own side of the street first - taking responsibility for making this place, where we live, as sustainable as possible. This is why the projects and services of the Sustainability Academy focus on three Central Coast Counties: Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito.
